Common in horse racing and golf: two equal bets in one — one for the win, one for a place.

Your total outlay is double the unit stake, and the place part pays a set fraction of the odds for a set number of places, both stated in the market's place terms.

A £10 each-way bet at 10/1 (11.00)

Total staked£20.00 (£10 win, £10 place)

Place part price2/1 (3.00)

If it wins£110.00 + £30.00 = £140.00 returned

If it places only£30.00 returned (£10.00 profit)

Note: place terms vary by event and by the number of runners — always check them before staking, because they change what the place half of the bet is actually worth.
